Commitment
NextGen Privacy is firmly committed to digital inclusion, equitable educational access, and ensuring that our website (https://nextgenprivacy.org/) is accessible to all individuals, including students, educators, and researchers with auditory, cognitive, neurological, physical, speech, and visual disabilities.
We believe that access to public-interest journalism and privacy research is a fundamental civic right. We continually improve the user experience for everyone, applying relevant accessibility standards in full compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) and international accessibility mandates.
Accessibility Standard and Status
To ensure universal accessibility, NextGen Privacy aims to conform fully with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
Our digital platform is currently classified as largely compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, with ongoing engineering initiatives to remediate identified minor limitations.
Scope
This statement applies to all web pages, published articles, policy briefs, interactive data tables, forms, and digital services hosted on https://nextgenprivacy.org/.
Accessibility Principles
Our digital design adheres to the four core WCAG principles: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust.
Keyboard Access and Focus
All interactive elements—including navigation links, menus, search boxes, form inputs, and modal controls—are fully operable via standard keyboard interfaces (using Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and Arrow keys). Visible, high-contrast focus rings clearly indicate active focus.
Skip Navigation and Landmarks
A prominent ‘Skip to Main Content’ link is available at the very top of every page, allowing screen-reader and keyboard users to bypass repetitive header navigation. Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, nav, main, aside, footer) provide rapid navigation.
Heading Structure and Language
Articles use strict, hierarchical heading structures (a single H1 per page, followed logically by H2, H3 subheadings). The default primary document language (English) is declared programmatically in the HTML markup.
Text, Readability and Reflow
Our typography utilizes high-legibility system and web fonts. Content reflows responsively across all viewport widths without requiring horizontal scrolling or loss of information, supporting browser zoom up to 400%.
Contrast and Color
Text and graphical user interface components satisfy the minimum color contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Information is never conveyed solely through color coding.
Links, Buttons and Controls
All hyperlinks feature descriptive anchor text that makes sense out of context (avoiding generic ‘click here’ links). Buttons and interactive controls carry unique, descriptive labels and ARIA attributes.
Forms
All form fields (such as search and newsletter inputs) are paired with explicit, visible HTML label elements and clear error messages.
Cookie Controls
Our cookie consent interface is fully keyboard-accessible and operable using assistive technologies.
Images and Alternative Text
Informative photographs, portraits, and diagrams carry descriptive alt text. Decorative visual elements carry empty alt attributes (alt=”) to prevent screen-reader clutter.
Charts, Graphs, Tables and Infographics
Complex regulatory matrices and data visualizations are accompanied by accessible data tables or detailed text summaries explaining the underlying metrics.
Audio and Video
Podcasts and video explainers are provided with synchronized captions and full text transcripts.
Motion, Flashing and Autoplay
We do not deploy flashing animations, auto-playing video with sound, or parallax motion effects that cause vestibular distress. Our platform respects the ‘prefers-reduced-motion’ browser setting.
Documents and Downloads
PDF policy briefs and downloadable Word documents are structured with proper headings, reading order tags, and document title metadata.
Mobile and Assistive Technology Testing
Our platform is systematically tested across desktop and mobile devices using popular screen readers, including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
Third-Party Components
Where third-party widgets are integrated, we contractually require vendor accessibility compliance.
Known Limitations
While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, some legacy archival PDF documents or complex multi-variable data charts may have minor accessibility limitations. We are actively remediating these assets.
Accessibility of Commercial and Accountability Content
Sponsored articles, public transparency reports, and governance disclosures must satisfy the exact same accessibility standards as news reporting.
Testing Frequency and Procurement
We conduct automated accessibility audits weekly and comprehensive manual accessibility reviews prior to major platform updates.
Feedback and Alternative Access
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of NextGen Privacy. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or if you need content in an alternative accessible format (such as plain text or large print), please contact our accessibility desk:
